A lorry driver is warning Sittingbourne motorists to be on their guard after youths lobbed a brick at his windscreen.
Paul Dunford was driving along Swale Way in Kemsley when he saw teenage boys standing at the side of the road ahead of him.
As he went past, one of them threw what he believes to be a large rock or brick at his vehicle.
He said: “There was such a loud bang and I just slammed on my brakes.
“They were aiming for my windscreen – it just missed, causing a lot of damage to my wing mirror.
“If it had gone through my window, it would have been so much worse. I’ve heard of lorry drivers being killed because of people throwing stuff off bridges at them”
“If it had gone through my window, it would have been so much worse. I’ve heard of lorry drivers being killed because of people throwing stuff off bridges at them.”
The 47-year-old, who lives in the town’s Harrier Drive, believes the teenagers targeted a number of motorists that evening because moments before his vehicle was struck another lorry driver flashed his headlights in what Mr Dunford now believes was an effort to warn him.
He immediately called the police about the 8.45pm attack, with officers going to the Eurolink Estate to get more details from him.
A force spokesman said: “We attended the scene and conducted an area search for the suspects.
It is reported that three youths were involved in the incident and it has been logged.”
Mr Dunford posted details of the attack on Facebook to warn other motorists, which led to other town residents saying they had suffered similar terrifying experiences.
One user said: “This must have been what happened to us last night. Driving along and heard a bang. Our windscreen had been hit and there was no other car around. Scared the cr*p out of us.”
Another added: “I had a brick hit my car Tuesday night, reported it to police.”
Anyone with information about the attack on Mr Dunford is asked to call police on 101, quoting 09-1320, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
A similar incident was also reported to police on Tuesday, September 8, when a car was damaged after a brick was thrown at it in Swale Way.
A group of people were seen running away from the scene. Crime reference number XY/031299/15.
