A Regency Festival will be hosted by the town today to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
There will be a fair, re-enactors and performers plus food and craft stalls in the High Street from 11am-4pm today.
People are asked to get into the spirit of things by dressing up in Regency-style clothing (think Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet).
The Sittingbourne Retail Association, Swale council and the New Waterloo Dispatch (NWD) have worked together to bring a re-enactment of the news of Waterloo to Sittingbourne.
It forms part of a national event entitled Waterloo 200, which started at Waterloo last Thursday and travelled to Broadstairs and Canterbury at the weekend.
The finale will see the NWD arrive in Faversham on Saturday morning before travelling to Sittingbourne to be met by Lord Lieutenant of Kent Viscount D’Isle and Lady D’Isle and the Mayor of Swale Cllr Anita Walker, and then on to bring the news to London.
Union Flags will be handed out to children to wave.
