An 18-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a train at Teynham railway station.
Emergency services were called at 9.25pm yesterday but she was declared dead at the scene.
The train was a service from St Pancras to Ramsgate.
A Southeastern spokesman said: “The train involved was diverted and there was a delay of around an hour and a half.
“It terminated at Faversham and passengers were met by our rail care team.”
The railway line had to be shut and the power turned off to ensure it was safe for the emergency services, including British Transport Police and ambulance crews.
An ambulance and a paramedic were sent but a spokesman said the woman, who has not been identified, had died at the scene.
All services due to be passing through the station were stopped, with a replacement bus run between Sittingbourne and Faversham.
High-speed services to London were diverted via Ashford.
Trains started passing through Teynham at 11.15pm but were not stopping there. They were back to normal by this morning.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
