A woman has been cut free following a two car crash on the A249 at Stockbury.

Firefighters using hydraulic cutters called the Jaws of Life rescued her from a white Kia Picanto.

Emergency crews worked to make space for paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance to assess her before helping move her into a waiting ambulance.

The crash happened on the Sheppey-bound carriageway between Detling and Sittingbourne at around 6.20pm this evening.

Three fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Services were sent. A spokesman said: "Firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment have freed a woman from her vehicle following a crash on the A249 northbound.

"Crews worked to make space for paramedics to assess the casualty before assisting with a move to a waiting ambulance."

Police said two cars were involved. A spokesman said: "Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service and two people were taken to a local hospital."

It is understood the other car ended up in a ditch.

The woman suffered a fractured shoulder and severe bruising. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
