Woman 'traumatised' after robbery bid

A 47-year-old disabled woman riding on her electric scooter was the victim of an attempted robbery in Milton Regis, near Sittingbourne.

The woman, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was in an alleyway between Middletune Avenue and Vicarage Road at around 12.15pm on Tuesday when the incident happened.

Det Sgt Simon Marsden said: "She was approached by a man in his mid-twenties who grabbed the scooter's handlebars and threatened to punch her unless she handed over cash.

"The offender made the woman take everything out of her bag to satisfy himself that she did not have any valuables. When he realised there was nothing for him to steal he ran off towards Middletune Avenue.

"The woman was totally traumatised by this event but she managed to ring the police when she got home."

The man was white, in his mid-20s, with short, dark hair, a light-coloured top and denim jeans.

Any witnesses with information about the incident or who may have seen the offender leaving the scene are asked to contact Det Sgt Marsden or PC Anthony Hopper at Swale Police on 01795 584349.
