One of the youngest members of the British Legion came to Sittingbourne to raise money for the charity she loves.

Emily-Rose Hughes, who is just seven, donned her Legion uniform and sold poppies outside Sainsbury’s on the High Street.

She made the journey all the way from her home in Accrington, Lancashire, to visit her grandfather Stuart Kitching who lives in Jessica Mews.

She also found time to go to the Bell Road cemetery to lay poppies on the First World War graves and pay her respects.

Emily-Rose first decided to join her local branch of the charity as a mascot after seeing the news coverage on the murder of Lee Rigby last year.

The Fusilier Drummer was killed by extremist radicals who spotted him wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt while walking near his barracks in Woolwich, South East London.

The local branch of the charity for meets every third Tuesday of the month at the Ypres Tavern, West Street, Sittingbourne.
