The voices of four youngsters from Bobbing Village School will be heard coming out of stereos across Kent after they were chosen to record a radio commercial.
Year 6 pupils Stephanie Cleveland, Chloe O’Brien, Abigail Wilding and Rebecca Wilson visited the kmfm studios in Strood to tape a 60-second clip about energy efficiency.
Their opportunity to get on the first rung of radio stardom happened after Bobbing Primary entered a competition held by Redrow Homes.
The house-building company joined forces with UTV Media’s “ucreate” project and tasked Kent and Essex schoolchildren with the job of recording an advert about energy efficiency in the home.
After a total of 55 entries were narrowed down to three, the village school’s piece was picked as the best in a public vote via YouTube.
kmfm has now professionally produced a commercial featuring the schoolgirls and Redrow awarded their school £500 to spend on a sustainability project.
Year 6 teacher Lisa Bunning said: “We entered the competition as I thought it would be a useful and enjoyable way for my class to learn about an important global issue.
“The children benefited from having a real purpose to their learning, and were able to improve their understanding about energy efficiency, their speaking and listening skills, as well as using modern technology to produce their adverts.
“Although they were steered in the right direction, I felt it was important that the children were able to work independently and create their own final product.”
