Kent Kings lost 47-42 to Stoke Potters in the National League at Central Park on Monday night - their third defeat in a row.
Kings captain Ben Morley was headed by evergreen Jon Armstrong in the opening heat as Stoke took a lead they relinquished only once all meeting.
That came in heat 12 courtesy of a one-two from Aaron Baseby - his third win in a row - and Danno Verge as Kings edged 37-34 ahead.
Hard work was undone in the next heat when Armstrong and Lee Payne grabbed a 5-1 over Morley and James Shanes.
There was a point between the teams going into heat 15 but Payne and Armstrong rode brilliantly in a re-run to shut out Morley, while Baseby was disqualified.
Morley (10) top-scored, with Baseby (9), Shanes (8), Verge (6+2) and Jamie Couzins completing Kent's tally. Adam Sheppard failed to score.
Kings visit National League champions Cradley on Wednesday night.
