A broken collarbone for Kent Kings’ Mark Baldock piled on the misery for the Sittingbourne-based team.

The Kings only recently brought in 32-year-old Baldock to replace departing Sam Woods as number two rider.

Baldock was competing in his first race of Sunday’s 54-39 National Trophy defeat to Sussex side Mildenhall Fen Tigers.

The Kent Kings are still awaiting their first victory, in all competitions.

On Friday night they were beaten 59-33 by Coventry Storm in the National League.

They have now registered two defeats from two in the league.

The Kings looked to have turned the corner after a recent draw in the Trophy, against the Buxton Hitmen, but had no joy at the weekend.

Friday’s match against the Tigers saw the Kings beaten but skipper Steve Boxall was in form, as he netted the team 14 points. But the evening was a disappointing one, as the Kings claimed just three race wins and one heat advantage.

On Monday night (17) they face a home fixture against the Rye House Raiders. Action starts at 6.30pm.
