Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis could be forced into a playing comeback – but he’ll need to buy some boots first.

Brickies only have one recognised centre-half for Saturday’s Ryman League Division 1 South home game against Whyteleafe and unless Davis can get someone in, the 35-year-old might be in the team.

Davis, who hasn’t played since the start of last season, said: “I’m desperately trying to get someone in or I might have to play myself.

“I’ll have to buy some boots first – mine have got holes in!

“We’ve got until March 31 to register people so I’m hoping we may be able to call in a favour here or there because I don’t really want to play. I’m 35, I haven’t played for 18 months and I’m probably carrying a stone."

Sittingbourne are inviting fans to pay what they want to watch the Whyteleafe game in a bid to attract more supporters.

The home crowd could see long-serving Hicham Akhazzan back in Brickies colours just a week after initiating a second loan move to Lordswood.

Lords are fighting to stay in the Southern Counties East League and Akhazzan wanted to help out their manager, Richard Styles.

Davis said: “Hich came to me and said his mate was struggling and that he wanted to go and help. Fair play to him for that – it says a lot about him as a person.

“He’s been in and out of our side and I was happy to let him go there but he’ll potentially be back on Saturday. If I think he’ll start the game, he’ll be back."
