Sittingbourne boss Chris Lynch has strengthened his squad by signing a National League South midfielder.
Lynch has brought in Ikechi Eze – brother of QPR star and reported Tottenham target Eberechi – and is absolutely delighted.
The 22-year-old is dropping two levels from Braintree to play for Bourne in Isthmian South East and made his debut in the 2-1 defeat to Whyteleafe on Tuesday night.
Speaking before Tuesday's game, Lynch said: “He’s a really good up-and-coming player and I’m excited that we’ve managed to bring him to the club.
“It just so happened I knew he was going to be coming available. I asked him to come down and have a look at the project and that was it – he agreed to sign.
“He probably needs a couple of games to get his fitness up but he’s a player I feel can make a real difference to us.
“It’s a great situation for us and it shows the intent at the club when we bring in players from higher levels.
“We’ve been able to get a very good player and if we can help him progress, great. That’s what I’m all about.
“We’re a club who like to give players opportunities, especially those we feel can go on in the game.
“He’s one that, for whatever reason, hasn’t had the game-time he’s needed but he can get that here if he does well.”
Sittingbourne are in Kent derby action at Sevenoaks this Saturday.
Oaks are in the play-off mix after a strong start to the season.
Lynch said: “They’ve done really well. It’s an interesting league this year because no one’s running away with it.
“There are a lot of good teams, probably 10, who can win any game at any point if they turn up on the day.
“It’s going to make for an interesting end to the season after Christmas.”
Adam Woollcott suffered a hamstring injury in last weekend's defeat at Burgess Hill, just a couple of weeks after regaining fitness, meaning he’s a doubt for Sevenoaks.
The former Hythe midfielder joins the likes of striker Johan Caney-Bryan and keeper Tom Benham in the treatment room.
Lynch said: “Unfortunately we’ve got seven out at the moment.
“Johan and Tom are still a couple of weeks away and there’s others with knocks who we’re monitoring.
“Once we get our full squad back, hopefully within the next two to three weeks, we’ll be extremely strong.”
