Sittingbourne hope they can hold on to manager Nick Davis.

Brickies secretary John Pitts is delighted with Davis’ work and wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs were looking at the 35-year-old.

Pitts said: “Nick, as a manager to work with, is definitely one of the best we’ve had in recent years. He never gives us any problems.

“He’s a very good young manager but whether he stays with us, I don’t know.

“We certainly wouldn’t get rid of him but Nick’s ambitious and he might feel he’s taken Sittingbourne as far as he can with the budget he has.

“He’s been terrifically loyal, him and Tony Cornwell, his number two.

“But if another club came along, somewhere he could get the finances he craves, it wouldn’t surprise me if he went.

“You never know. I’m sure there are people out there who have seen what a good job he’s done on our budget, bringing in players from lower levels.”

Sittingbourne are working on preparations for next season.

The budget is likely to be similar, although Brickies are prepared to spend extra if it means landing a striker who could help them into the top half of Ryman League Division 1 South.

They could do with some FA Cup and FA Trophy prize money, having fallen at the first hurdle in both competitions this season.

Pitts said: “We suffered badly by not winning any money.

“It affected us in a huge way, so credit to everyone, including our commercial manager John Cooper, who ensured we had enough money to keep our budget through the season.

“We kept our promise to Nick that it would stay the same, when clubs like Herne Bay and Ramsgate had to cut theirs."
