Gore Court’s Kent League match against Catford & Cyphers was abandoned due to a dangerous pitch.

Just 20 overs of Saturday’s Division 2 match were played before the match umpires deemed the wicket unsafe.

Gore Court are awaiting a league ruling to determine the outcome of the fixture but skipper Christian Marsh feels his side should be awarded maximum points.

“It’s not our fault they couldn’t prepare a proper pitch,” said Marsh.

“At the moment we’ve been awarded eight points for an abandonment but ideally we would want 20 as that’s how many we could have got had we won.

“It was just lucky nobody was hurt. Richard Cooper was bowling for us, at about 50mph, and it hit someone on the arm off the length and one ball from our spinner flew over my head and I was standing up (as wicketkeeper).

“The umpires dealt with the situation brilliantly and deemed it unsafe. It was only going to get worse."

League registration secretary Errol Valentine said: “The ground has been assessed and a report will be made, with recommendations. We will then find a solution but that depends on what the ground assessors find.

“Until the circumstances are established, nobody is willing to comment any more.”

Gore Court have been awarded eight points from the match, the amount designated for an abandoned game.
