Boss Nick Davis says Sittingbourne will have to be at their best to get anything at Cray Wanderers.

Brickies are off to Hayes Lane on Wednesday to face the in-form Wands, who are 13 games unbeaten in Bostik South.

Fourth-placed Cray boast 23-goal striker Michael Power and have conceded the fewest goals in the division – just 13 in 20 games.

Davis played under Cray boss Tony Russell at Erith and knows how tough it will be.

He said: “I know Tony well, he’s a friend of mine and I was impressed with him when I played at Erith in between injuries.

“He’s got Cray playing good football, they score a lot of goals and they’ve got that stability of not conceding, which they didn’t have last year.

“They’re physical, too, and can deliver quality, so what he’s done is put a side together that can deal with all conditions and scenarios.

“Them and Lewes are the most consistent sides in the league and we’ll have to play well to get anything there – we’ll need to be at our best.”

Brickies are no mugs themselves, sitting eighth, and they’ve had time to prepare after Saturday’s game against Guernsey was postponed at the last minute due to a frozen goalmouth. They know they’re capable of competing with Cray after a goalless draw at Woodstock Park at the end of October.

Davis said: “We trained for an hour-and-a-half on Saturday after the game was called off and went through a lot of stuff on Cray and how they play. You’d never normally get that long, especially with all the games we’ve been playing.

“There wasn’t a lot in it when we played them at home but, regardless of that, it’s going to be a tough ask.”

Bourne face another tricky away game at play-off rivals Greenwich Borough on Saturday. Boro have drawn their last four – dropping to sixth place – but are one of the fancied teams.

Davis said: “They’ll be up there in the top four or five come the end of the season. We’ve had a run of tough away games. Any game in this league is tough, especially when you’re playing one of the favourites.”
