Sittingbourne manager Aslan Odev will always put football before finances when talking to transfer targets.

Odev is looking to strengthen his squad for the new Bostik South East season but has little time for discussing money.

He said: "I always try to talk about football and what we want to achieve on the pitch.

"No club at this level can offer anything life-changing so it should be about what happens on the pitch and a player's ambitions, not what goes into their bank account.

"Don't get me wrong, you've got to tick the boxes but we want players who want to do things the right way and achieve things.

"It's not all lovey-dovey but we want the right personalities."

Sittingbourne are one of 12 Kent clubs in a 20-team division following a league restructure.

They are joined by Ashford, Cray, Faversham, Herne Bay, Hythe, Phoenix Sports, Ramsgate, Sevenoaks. Thamesmead, VCD and Whitstable.

Some people say the number of derbies, and the intensity they bring, will make it hard for Kent clubs to do well but Odev disagrees.

He said: "I think the new league will help us, that's very much the case.

"There's far less miles to travel for away games and we all know each other, so it's good.

"With the derbies there's always that motivation to beat the teams around you, both geographically and in the table.

"It's quite an open league from what I'm looking at with the teams who've come up and the ones who've stayed.

"It's anyone's game as long as you work hard in pre-season."
