Sittingbourne are ready to give teenager Jake Embery big responsibility next season.

They think the 17-year-old could be the answer to their goalscoring problems and intend to give him every opportunity.

Striker Embery has already been watched by League 1 Charlton but Brickies boss Nick Davis says he has to prove himself in the Ryman League first.

Davis said: “It’s a big year coming up for Jake.

“He’s not had loads and loads of Ryman football but he has a lot of potential.

“If you’re doing well and scoring goals at this level, then clubs will give you a chance but he’s not cracked it yet.

“He’s done well for the under-21s, scoring 20-odd goals, and he got five or six for us but he needs to play regularly and score regularly to get where he wants to be.

“I want to get him in the side. It might be that we have to adapt the way we play because he’s better when he has someone up there with him.

“He’d work well with someone big who can hold it up and put himself about.”

Embery won’t be the only youngster seeing plenty of first-team action next season.

Davis added: “Where some of them have played 15, 20, 25 games, they’re looking maybe at 35, 40, 45 games.

“I’ve emphasised the importance of not going away during the season.

“We had four away at Christmas this season, which isn’t right.

“You need commitment at this level of football. Players should take their holidays in June and July.”
