Goalkeeper Ben Bridle-Card has helped Sittingbourne stay unbeaten after a bizarre start with his new club.

Bridle-Card, a loan signing from Maidstone, was late for his debut after traffic chaos caused by a collapsed bridge on the M20 on Saturday.

Brickies kicked off their game against South Park with young defender Danny Rumball in goal before Bridle-Card arrived and took over in the 13th minute.

The loanee, covering for the injured Simon Overland, made three superb saves in Brickies’ 2-0 victory and was at it again in a 3-1 success at big-spending Greenwich Borough on Monday.

Manager Nick Davis said: “You couldn’t make it up but, wow, what a keeper Ben is. He made three great saves at the end.

“We made the change straight away, there was no time for a warm-up, he threw his kit on and we got him out there.

“Rumball came off to rapturous applause, supporters were saying I was out of order for bringing him off, they thought he was a goalkeeper!

“No one put their hand up when I asked for a volunteer but I remembered seeing Rumball make a save with no gloves on during a half-time kickabout, so I asked if he could do it.”

Brickies are one of five unbeaten teams in Ryman League Division 1 South.

They’re eighth, two points off the top, after back-to-back wins.
