Ben Morley claimed a career-best maximum as depleted Kent Kings beat Mildenhall Fen Tigers 48-40 at Central Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Kings were already missing Benji Compton (broken hand) and Brandon Freemantle (concussion) and suffered another blow when Luke Chessell crashed in heat one and was forced to pull out of the meeting with heavy bruising.

The visitors enjoyed the best of the early exchanges, with former Kings favourite Jack Kingston beating captain Simon Lambert and vice-captain David Mason in his opening rides.

Another Kent old boy, Connor Coles, also beat Lambert, as 2012 champions Mildenhall threatened to spoil Kings’ first home National League meeting of the campaign.

But Morley’s 15-point maximum and a paid maximum for in-form Mason (14+1) kept Kent in the hunt and they edged home by eight points.

Mason said: “Well that was certainly a match full of incident, great for a large Bank Holiday crowd to watch, I’m sure – but it certainly wasn’t good for my heart!

“To take all three league points when it looked at one stage as if we wouldn’t get anything was pretty special.”

Kings suffered their first National League defeat of the season on Friday, losing 54-39 at Coventry Storm.

And they were edged 49-40 by Stoke Potters in the National Trophy on Saturday.
