Kent Kings were denied their first-ever victory in the final heat of their National Trophy meeting against Buxton Hitmen on Monday night.

They looked set to triumph until Charles Wright rounded Steve Boxall and Benji Compton to win the heat and force a 45-all draw at Central Park.

Kings captain Boxall set a new track record of 57.9sec in winning the opening heat of the night.

That was followed by victories for Adam Kirby, Ben Morley and Compton as Kent opened up a 14-10 lead after four heats.

Buxton fought back and led for the first time after nine heats.

There were further wins for Boxall, Compton and Kirby before Wright's superb move earned a draw for the visitors.
