Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis is hoping to sign a striker before back-to-back Kent derbies.

Brickies, 2-1 winners over Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday thanks to Tom Brunt and Joe Loft, host Chatham on Saturday and go to Herne Bay on Tuesday with Davis keen to bring in a new forward after losing Miles Cornwell to Folkestone last month.

He’s made a seven-day approach for a Southern Counties East player and is free to speak to him from today.

Davis said: “It’s been difficult without Miles because we played a certain way with him and we’ve had to change our system.

“We need to replace him and need to start scoring goals again. We’ve put a seven-dayer in for someone. He might not want to come but it’s an opportunity to play higher, so hopefully he’ll be interested.

“We’re looking in the league below again. It always seems to be that way with the budget restrictions.”

It could be one in, one out at Bourne with Ryman League Division 1 South rivals Faversham making a seven-day approach for defender/midfielder Jack Steventon.

Lilywhites boss Ray Turner is set to hold talks with the teenager on Wednesday.
