Boss Nick Davis has spoken of his relief after Sittingbourne ended a run of 13 league defeats.

Brickies came from a goal down to beat Chatham 2-1 at the weekend and will move out of the bottom three in Ryman League Division 1 South if they win at South Park tonight (Wednesday, 7.45pm).

Club backing for Davis at the start of the month came with a warning that results had to improve by the new year.

And after celebrating their first victory since September 19, Davis is determined to push on.

He said: “We’ve got the monkey off our back now.

“It’s such a relief. You start to think you’re jinxed.

“The stress from the run we’ve been on has been unbelievable - it kills you.

“Getting to the bottom of it is all you think about the whole time.

“Defeat doesn’t end at the ground.

“It goes on for three or four days afterwards, questioning whether we did this or that right, what we could have done differently, what I could have done differently."

Brickies go to fellow strugglers Peacehaven on Saturday.
