Borden Village host Thanet club Minster in a Kent County League Premier Division title decider tomorrow (2.45pm).

The Villagers, managed by Matt Rowe and Conor Twomey, have gone top of the table for the first time this season after reeling off five straight wins.

Sam Stace scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Fleetdown United on Saturday, before Lee Armstrong, Connor Miller, George Surry, John Brown (penalty) and Ricky Gundry earned a 5-1 success over New Romney on Monday.

It’s all set up for an intriguing final day at Borden Playstool, with the home side a point clear of Minster.

Neither side have applied for promotion - lacking the facilities for Southern Counties East football - but championship glory is at stake.

“A draw’s good enough but we won’t have that mentality - we’ll be going for the win,” said Borden chairman Ian Williams.

“Saturday will be our ninth game in 24 days and we’ve won seven of the last eight to get in this position.

“Minster have been up there all season, where we’ve gone top for the first time after the penultimate game.

“Full credit to the joint-management and the players.

“It’s all down to them. We’ve had to play a lot of games but they’ve gone with it and we could end up winning the Premier Division for the first time.

“I always say we’re a little fish in a big pond because we’re just a small village club and we’re taking on sides who’ve perhaps got a little bit of money behind them and can draw on massive youth set-ups.

“It would be a fantastic achievement to win the league.”

Entry to the match is free.
