SITTINGBOURNE are still hunting for a new striker before their Dr Martens League, Eastern Division campaign kicks off at Stamford on Saturday.

The club has held talks with five different strikers during the summer. But none have put pen to paper to sign and manager Mark Beeney is anxious to augment to his team's firepower.

He added Kevin Fewell, Joe Dowling and Matt Nichols -- all from Chatham Town -- to his squad in the off-season but still wants a least one new face.

Beeney said: “We've been turned down by a few forwards for one reason or another but we are hopeful of picking someone up, even if it's after the season begins.

“The squad has a few injuries at the moment but it's mainly minor stuff like aches and pains and ankle knocks. I'm hoping they will all be fit and ready in time for the first game off the season.”

Sittingbourne drew 1-1 against Herne Bay in a friendly on Saturday.
