British Speedway have delayed the start of the season once more due to coronavirus.

The start of the new speedway competition was put on hold in the middle of March, a month before racing was due to get underway.

Kings were due to open their campaign with the Kent Open Chase at Central Park on Wednesday, April 8 but all racing has been suspended.

The National League season was due to begin a week after that, with a home fixture against Leicester.

British Speedway initially said they would review the suspension on April 15 but with the country on lockdown, it was clear that any action next month is remote.

A statement released by British Speedway today (Wednesday) said that it was now "unlikely that that there would be any events taking place before June 15, at least."

They added: “The board have to consider the public, their members, riders and officials, some of which will be included in the high risk group.

“It is the wish of the board that every effort is made to start the new season at the first available opportunity and we have members of the association continuing to provide alternative fixture dates as the situation evolves.

“The British Speedway Promoters Ltd sends their best wishes to everyone at this incredibly difficult time.”

Kent Kings are in the Championship this season with their new second team - the Royals - competing in the National League.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding speedway and the problems of coronavirus, the Kings this week decided to reimburse fans who had pre-purchased season tickets with their money.

Co-promoter Len Silver said: "I expect that many of our fans will be living as I am, at home and not mixing with others. Serious actions for serious times.
