Plans are in place to ensure Sittingbourne FC are aware of the town’s top talent.

Swale footballers have shown an interest in Brickies’ trial day on June 21 and the club are to go a step further by appointing a scout to monitor local players.

Joint-boss Matt Wyatt said: “I’m not in a position to name the scout until May 24 but he’s someone who lives in the area, played at a half-decent level and knows the local scene.

“His job will be to watch local teams to make sure we don’t miss out on players to the likes of Faversham, Whitstable, Maidstone, or whoever. If they are local, we want to know about them.

“There would be nothing worse than watching a game, thinking a player’s good and then finding out he’s playing for a rival team when he lives only five or 10 minutes from your ground. If that happens, you have to ask questions.”

Sittingbourne are closing in on two new signings – but Wyatt isn’t getting carried away.

He added: “We have agreements in place but until players sign on the dotted line, you just never know."
