Sittingbourne have secured striker Johan Caney-Bryan on a deal along with two other new recruits.
Midfielder Khalil McFarlane and forward Tommy Fagg have also agreed to commit to the Brickies.
Caney-Bryan was a prolific goalscorer for his University of East London team and then took a year out travelling but he’s made a quick impact on boss Aslan Odev.
Odev said: “I bumped into him, we got chatting about football, about what level he had played at and I asked him if he wanted to come in for pre-season.
“He scored both goals against Bearsted and has had a really positive impact.”
McFarlane is a central midfield player who previously been at Herne Bay and Margate and is well thought of by his previous manager Steve Watt, now No.2 at Maidstone.
Odev said: “He had a brilliant first game for us and I have known him from various places. He has played for Watto at Margate and he really liked him there.”
Fagg is a forward player last with Harlow Town, coming after a recommendation from goalkeeper Patrick Lee, the pair having been team-mates before.
Odev said: “We have got a few more players we are looking to sign on a deal but we’re still keeping an open mind.
“We are very happy with what we have got at the moment and confident that we can achieve something very good this season.”
Brickies have a home game against Sheppey this Saturday (1pm).
Odev, who hails from the Island, knows results in pre-season don’t matter but he’d still enjoy a victory over his old club. He managed the Ites’ reserve side before switching to Sittingbourne, originally joining Nick Davis’ coaching staff.
The two men will be in opposite dugouts this weekend, after Davis joined Sheppey as their No.2 this summer.
Odev said: “It will give another indication of how we can deal with pressure. Games between the sides are always competitive and we will have new players to look at.
“Our players are really excited about the game but not as much as the fans. It is a pre-season game, we will keep that in mind, but if we can come away with a win and a good performance then it’s all good.”
Sheppey are likely to include former Sittingbourne players Jono Richardson, Ollie Brown, Hicham Akhazzan and Conrad Lee in their team.
