Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis sees a nasty streak in his players for the first time as they put their 100% start on the line.
Brickies begin the bank holiday weekend at Lewes on Saturday and host managerless Ashford at Woodstock on Monday (both 3pm).
Davis’ new side have won their first two Bostik South matches, as have Lewes, and look like they know how to handle themselves.
They're out of the FA Cup after losing 1-0 at home to Pagham in a preliminary round replay last night - but take nothing away from their start.
Davis said: “When you think seven weeks ago we didn’t have one player, we have to be happy with where we are.
“We seem to have a good team spirit and we’re showing a little more consistency than last year.
“The average age is still only 22 but we’ve got players who’ve played 100 games at this level and have that bit of experience, even though they’re only in their early-20s.
“We’ve got a bit more steel about us and a nastiness, which we’ve not had since I’ve been at the club, and that’s good to see.”
Lewes and Sittingbourne are two of only four clubs to boast 100% records but it’s a different story for league new boys Ashford, whose boss Danny Lye quit after losing the first two games.
Davis said: “We don’t want to get above ourselves.
“Lewes are a really tough side and I think Ashford have kept the nucleus of their team together after the manager going and I was expecting them to go well this season.
“Let’s see where we are after these next two games.”
