Sittingbourne have boosted their attacking options with two new signings.

Former Folkestone winger Kieron McCann has joined from Margate, while striker Mario Quiassaca arrives from recent FA Trophy opponents South Park.

The pair were due to be in the squad for last night’s Kent Senior Cup tie against Sevenoaks, only for their opponents to forfeit the match due to injuries.

Instead, they could make their debuts when Bourne host Chatham in Isthmian South East this Saturday.

“We were close to getting Kieron in pre-season,” said manager Nick Davis.

“For whatever reason it didn’t work out for him at Margate and we acted quickly and got him.

“He’s a great addition for us. He can play in a few positions in an attacking sense.”

Davis had been looking for a replacement for ex-skipper Kane Rowland and, in Quiassaca, hopes to have one.

Bourne saw his talents close up when they beat South Park in the FA Trophy a fortnight ago.

“He’s got four goals in seven games for them,” said Davis.

“He’s one of the better forwards we’ve seen this season and once we heard he was available, we acted.

“I knew of him before, you’re always getting recommended players, but you always want to see someone with your own eyes.

“He’s played National South, so he’s got good pedigree, he’s 29, he’s got a lot of pace and can run in behind and he’s good in the air as well.”

Sittingbourne were knocked out of the FA Trophy on penalties by Burgess Hill last weekend.

Right-back Donvieve Jones scored a last-minute equaliser - his third goal in as many games - as the Second Qualifying Round tie went the distance after a 1-1 draw.

Alex Addai and Bagasan Graham missed Bourne’s first two penalties and while Ben Gorham, Jerry Puemo and Reece Deakin were successful, the Hillians won the shoot-out 4-3 after Matt Warren’s miss.

“We’re just not getting the rub of the green at the moment,” said Davis, whose side lost 3-2 at home to Hythe in the league on Tuesday last week.

“How we’ve not won the game, I don’t know.

“We’ve hit the bar twice and had one cleared off the line, they hardly got in our half and then Matt Warren, who’s been brilliant for us, had a crossfield pass intercepted and they ran through and scored.

“That gave them something to defend but when we scored I thought, ‘OK, maybe the momentum’s with us’ and then we missed the first two penalties.

“It’s always a lottery when it goes to penalties.

“I was pleased with the performance, we played well. We just couldn’t score.

“When we were well on top we should have been out of sight and in the end we got punished.”

Sittingbourne will move above Chatham if they beat their Kent rivals at Woodstock this weekend.

The visitors have made a good start after promotion, winning three of their four league games, and Davis is aware of the threat they pose.

“They’re a really strong side,” he said. “It’ll be a tough game, like every game is at this level.”

Bourne visit Corinthian in the Velocity Trophy second round on Tuesday.
