SHANE BYRNE believes he can reclaim the British Superbike title after signing for the Airwaves Ducati team.
Byrne, who won the title in 2003, will team up with Ashford rider Leon Camier for next year’s championship.
Byrne finished fifth last season with the Stobart Honda team, while Camier’s season ended early after breaking his leg at Cadwell Park in August.
The factory produced bike will give both riders a big chance of glory next season.
“I’m delighted,” said Byrne. “It’s onwards and upwards from here.
“The last time I was on a Ducati I was pretty successful, so if we can go some way to emulating that then I’ll be happy.
“I want to win the British Superbike Championship in 2008 and I think I can with GSE Racing and Airwaves Ducati behind me.”
Camier, who won the British 125GP and Supersport Championships, is still recovering from injury but is raring to go and feels he can also make an impact next year.
“My aim is obviously to win the championship and I think I’m in with a really good chance next season,” said the 21-year-old.
“I reckon it’s going to be a great season and I just can’t wait to get started.”
