Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis has landed a gem following a tip-off from one of his players.
Winger Gil Carvalho impressed in a 2-0 win against Molesey at the weekend after being recommended to the club by utility man Conrad Lee.
Davis said: “He’s a friend of Conrad’s and had been playing local football.
“He actually came through the youth set-up at Tonbridge and played five or six times for them.
“He’s only 19 and everyone was raving about him on Saturday. He can play on either wing and he’s a proper athlete who’s quick and can run with the ball.
“We were prepared to give him an opportunity and it worked well for both of us. Conrad’s recommended a couple of players before who were rubbish! We need to see more of Gil but he’s looked good so far.”
Brickies have also brought striker David Abe back to the club.
He scored against Molesey and is back at Woodstock after two seasons away, enjoying a prolific spell at Sheppey.
Mid-table Sittingbourne go to Ryman League Division 1 South play-off contenders Hythe on Saturday.
Brickies were thrashed 5-0 when the teams met in the FA Cup this season but made amends with a 4-0 win in the first league game.
Davis, who has no injury worries, said: “It’ll be a tough one. They want the points to push on for the play-offs.
“They beat us in the FA Cup but we did the same back to them at our place, so who knows what will happen?”
