Sittingbourne Crusaders speedway team faded after a bright start in going down 59-33 to Plymouth in the Conference League.
Youngster Rikki Mullins was heading towards a first competitive win when he lost concentration and crashed. It was a blow from which he never recovered and neither did his team-mates.
There was a first-ever double figure paid return for Medway-based Dan Berwick following some steady away scoring at Scunthorpe.
He said: “I had mixed feelings after the Plymouth match as scoring paid 10 is obviously pleasing though I feel I could have done better. But I was gutted for Rikki.”
Scorers: Felton, 11; Berwick 9; Harland Cook 6; Cunningham 3; Baseby 3, Andrews 1; Mullins 0.
The Iwade club will be wanting to make amends with Sunday’s visit of Redcar Cubs to the Raspberry Lane track (noon).
