Nick Davis says nobody outside the Sittingbourne dressing room believes they are good enough to fight for the play-offs.
Brickies climbed to fifth place in Ryman League Division 1 South after five wins in a row but have since suffered back-to-back defeats and have fallen to ninth.
Brickies suffered their fourth defeat in a row in all competitions when they went out of the FA Trophy at Walton Casuals on Sunday but nine wins in 11 before that proves what a good side they are.
Davis said: “We believe in the dressing room we are good enough for the play-offs.
“No one outside believes that but we do.
“We’ve had a bad run and not played well at times but, on the other hand, no-one’s taken the mick or cut us to pieces.
“Overall, it’s still been a great start to the season and we need to remember that.
“You are going to be inconsistent when you’ve got 17 and 18-year-olds playing.
“But if we have another couple of runs then we’ll be knocking on the door."
Sittingbourne were set for a weekend off with scheduled opponents Worthing in FA Cup action.
But they will now play Corinthian Casuals in a rearranged fixture at Woodstock Park on Saturday (3pm).
Brickies visit Chatham in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday (7.45pm).
