Nick Davis’ return to Sittingbourne has gone down well with his players.
Davis worked with most of the squad as joint-manager alongside Matt Wyatt last season and he’s been given a warm welcome back now he’s in sole charge at Woodstock Park.
He’s confident of keeping the side together, even though former boss Wyatt is expected to target Brickies players when he returns to the dugout.
Davis said: “I never expected to come back but it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. There are lads here who I had a massive part in keeping during the summer. They’re delighted to have me back and it’s good to be back.
“I’ve spoken to every player and they’re happy, not just because I’m here but also because it’s closure for them after the uncertainty over when a new manager would come in.
“There were a couple who didn’t enjoy their football under the old regime and said they dreaded coming in on a Saturday. It was pleasing to hear them say they’re delighted I’m here.
“Everyone seems happy which is important. If you don’t enjoy non-league football, it’s pointless being there.”
Brickies drew 0-0 at Three Bridges in Davis’ first game back last weekend and go to Herne Bay for a rearranged Ryman League Division 1 South game on Saturday (3pm).
