Sittingbourne ended a goal drought lasting more than eight hours in a spectacular comeback victory.
They scored three times in 10 minutes late in the second half to win 3-2 at Ryman League Division 1 South play-off chasers Whyteleafe last weekend.
Brickies had lost five games in a row – all without scoring – and were heading for another defeat before substitute Gary Webb scored twice after making the Brickies’ first goal for Harry Smith.
It was just a second win in 11 matches for boss Nick Davis, whose side are without a game this weekend. They’re up to ninth but Davis just wants enough points to stay up before turning his attention to next season.
He said: “I’ve never been involved in a game like that – it’s a huge result. It felt like we’d won the cup final. It was more than three points. It was a confidence boost for everyone and the atmosphere was electric.
“I wasn’t too happy with the way we’d defended but I said at half-time we had nothing to lose, we hadn’t won or scored a goal in five games, so let’s just go for it.
“Slowly, I’m turning the side around to the way I want it. It was never going to be done overnight – it takes time.
“We’re looking for another 10 or 12 points to make sure we’re safe, then we can start building for next season."
