Sittingbourne have been handed a dream draw in the FA Trophy fifth round.
They’re off to National League big guns Southend United on Saturday, February 1, with prize money of £6,000 to the winners. The losers take £1,750.
The Shrimpers, an ex-Football League club, are arguably the biggest name left in the competition, while their Roots Hall ground boasts a 12,400 capacity.
The Brickies are through to the last 16 for the first time in their history after beating Salisbury 2-1 at Woodstock on Saturday.
It was a second successive victory for the Isthmian South East club against National League South opposition, having beaten Enfield 4-2 at home in round three.
Sittingbourne have beaten five higher-division teams to reach this stage, having previously never been beyond round two.
“It’s like a dream that we just don’t want to end,” said manager Ryan Maxwell at the weekend.
“That squad we have are capable of anything.”
