LORRAINE ELGAR: "I don’t see myself as a trail-blazer"

KENT-based umpire Lorraine Elgar took her place in cricket history last Sunday by becoming the first female to officiate in a Minor Counties fixture.

Lorraine stood in the knock-out cup game at Radlett where Wiltshire beat hosts Hertfordshire.

"I took a bit of pressure on decision making in the second innings, but I enjoyed that, after all it is all part of the game, and the day as a whole was really enjoyable," said Lorraine, from Sittingbourne.

"I’m just trying to umpire at the best level possible. I don’t see myself as a trail-blazer, but if me doing this first does make it easier for female qualified umpires then all well and good."

Lorraine is also scheduled to officiate in the Kent 2nd v England Under-19 clash later this summer.
