Sittingbourne manager Chris Lynch has started his summer clear-out by releasing Billy Lewins.
Lewins was one of Lynch’s first signings after taking charge in January but the midfielder is looking for a new club.
Lynch said: “Billy’s a very young lad who scored a few important goals for us.
“But he came off the bench a lot and I’m looking for first-team players who will be playing all the time, not coming in and doing a little bit off the bench.
“I want every player here next season to be a vital part of the squad.
“Billy won’t be the only one leaving - there will be several others.
“I’ve got to be honest and upfront with people because it’s their careers and the money helps pay the bills.
“It’s not because they’ve done anything wrong or aren't good players, I just feel we need to be stronger in certain areas.
“As long as you’re honest and fair about it, people can’t ask for any more. It’s the hard end of the business.”
Sittingbourne will still have a predominantly young squad next season but Lynch is already on the lookout for experience.
He said: “I’m not talking about 32 or 33-year-olds, I mean 25-30-year-olds who are still hungry but for whatever reason aren’t continuing at the level above.
“I’ve got friends and contacts and there’s a lot of good players out there.
“Pretty much everyone is a free agent and ideally I’d like to add three or four experienced players in the areas we need, to help what will still be a youthful side.”
Sittingbourne host Guernsey in their final Bostik South East game of the season on Saturday.
A point would be enough to save the Channel Islanders from relegation on goal difference if drop rivals Greenwich lose to Hastings.
But Brickies want to finish with a flourish, with Lynch assuring Greenwich he will naming a strong side.
Lynch said: “We like our rivalry with Guernsey, they're great people and it will be unfortunate if we send them down but it’s not our problem.
“We’re not here to do anybody any favours and that includes Greenwich, if they end up staying up.
“We’re here to be the best we can be and we want to win every game.
“I’m not going to put out a weakened team against Guernsey.
“It’s not what I’m about and it’s not good for the fans who are paying good money to come and watch us.”
