David Mason is loving life back at Central Park as Kent Kings prove the doubters wrong.
Former captain Mason returned after a year at hometown club Eastbourne and has helped Kent make an unbeaten start to the speedway season.
Kings struggled after entering the sport in 2013 but three years on, are genuine contenders on all fronts.
They are fighting for the National League title, have a two-legged National Trophy final against Birmingham at the end of the month and are looking good to progress in the Knockout Cup.
Crowd favourite Mason, the record points scorer in the National League, said: “We’re out to win everything but know there are 11 other teams who want to stop us.
“A lot of people didn’t put us anywhere at the beginning of the year.
“We’ve come into it as underdogs and we’re proving people wrong. That’s all we’re doing and that’s all we will keep doing until we have proved everyone wrong.
“If we could win a couple of trophies for the supporters, it would be the cherry on top of the cake.
“We’ve had a good start but we must stay level-headed and not get cocky because speedway can change quickly. I know that only too well – I’ve seen it and got the T-shirt.”
