Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis believes he’s seen the champions.

Davis is convinced Dorking Wanderers will win Ryman League Division 1 South after watching them end his team’s six-match unbeaten run on Saturday.

Brickies were outclassed in a 3-0 defeat by the new leaders – but there was no shame in that.

Davis said: “Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and accept you’ve been beaten by a better side.

“Dorking, by a country mile, are the best team in the league. They played exceptionally well and, from what I’ve seen, they will win the league.

“We’ve had a fantastic run – and we’re disappointed to lose – but you can only take your hat off and admire them."

Defeat saw Sittingbourne drop to ninth place, six points outside the play-off places.

They host lowly Chipstead at Woodstock on Saturday (3pm), with Davis challenging his side to go on another run.

He said: “I’m proud of the players for the run they’ve been on and the club should be, too.

“We were always going to lose at some point and to be disappointed at losing to Dorking shows how far we’ve come.

“To take 16 points out of 18 and still not be in the play-offs shows how tough it is to get in that top five and then one defeat and we’re six points adrift.

“It’s all about how we respond and there’s no reason why we can’t go another run."

Steven Ita returns from injury against Chipstead but Jake Embery and Jono Richardson are both away.
