Sittingbourne manager Aslan Odev fires FA Trophy warning before Faversham tie

It's a case of beware the wounded animal for Sittingbourne this weekend.

They visit Faversham in the FA Trophy preliminary round on Saturday with the Lilywhites smarting from a 7-2 defeat at Bostik South East leaders Cray.

There's £3,000 in prize money up for grabs at Salters Lane and the Brickies are expecting a reaction from Ray Turner's side.

Sittingbourne boss Aslan Odev said: "They lost 7-2 but when Cray are firing on all cylinders they're a difficult team to play against.

"We're taking nothing for granted this weekend.

"We've got to make sure our motivation, our desire and our discipline are Grade A.

"All league form goes out the window in cup competitions and there's added spice with it being a Kent derby.

"We were unlucky to go out of the FA Cup against Gosport, so it would be nice to have a run in the Trophy and make some extra dough for the club.

"We need to make sure we get a good result for the club and the fans."

Brickies go into the tie on the back of a 2-0 league defeat at Haywards Heath.

Key midfielder Lewis Chambers missed that game as a precaution but is set to return in the Trophy, although Tommie Fagg is still suspended.

Odev could always turn to player-coach Nathan Elder.

The former Dover and Tonbridge striker has made several substitute appearances but is yet to start for the Brickies.

Odev said: "He's been brilliant. He came on at the end against Haywards Heath and gave us a bit of a lift.

"He's here primarily as a coach but when we need him to play he's more than happy to do so.

"He's at the gym every day and has kept himself in shape but he hasn't asked to start games.

"He knew his role and what we were looking for when we came in."
