Sittingbourne boss Nick Davis has told his players to believe they are good enough to make the play-offs.
Brickies are defying pre-season relegation fears to mount an unlikely promotion challenge in Ryman League Division 1 South. Four consecutive wins left them just a point outside the play-offs and they go to another form team, Lewes, on Saturday.
It’s all been achieved on one of the smallest budgets in the division and Davis said: “There’s going to come a time when you think maybe it is possible to reach the play-offs.
“If you look at the rest of the table, you’d half-expect the other teams to be up there challenging but we’re the surprise package.
“We’re turning heads and other teams will be taking us seriously because we can beat anyone on our day. We’ve got to believe we can continue to compete and stay up there.
“Believe in it – they’re the three words I say to the players because if we don’t believe, then no one else will."
Tuesday night's game at home to Herne Bay was postponed, while Steven Ita misses Saturday's trip to Lewes with injury. He could be back for the visit of Walton Casuals on Tuesday.
It’s almost two months since Lewes, who play South Park tonight, lost a league game.
Davis said: “They’re unbeaten in 10 or 12 games so that’s going to be a real test but we’re in good form ourselves.”
