Competition for places has gone up a level at Sittingbourne.

Boss Nick Davis has added defender Scott Whibley to his ranks and was also primed to bring in striker Andy Irvine before the weekend.

And midfielder Josh Algar – recently signed from Whitstable – is waiting a first league start. He was an unused substitute in the 3-0 loss to Tooting on Saturday.

Irvine and Algar could make their league debuts this weekend when Brickies visit second-placed Worthing.

Whibley will be watching from the sidelines due to suspension but his chance won’t be long in coming. He has joined from Ryman League Division 1 North Phoenix Sports.

Davis said: “He won the league with Phoenix last year, helping them to 27 clean sheets. At 26 he has his best years ahead of him."

Whibley and Irvine were both part of the Tunbridge Wells side which reached the FA Vase final in 2013, with Irvine scoring in every round.

Billy French (ankle), Josh Wisson (England schoolboys) and Miles Cornwall (suspended) miss Saturday's trip to Sussex but Brickies travel buoyed by Tuesday night's 2-1 Robert Dyas League Cup quarter-final win over Corinthian Casuals.

They will play Faversham for a place in the final after two goals from Dan Hughes.
