SITTINGBOURNE boss John Roles boss has quit Central Park after Tuesday night's humiliating defeat against Ashford. Bourne lie at the bottom of the Dr Martens League Eastern Division with no points and with only one win to their name, in the FA Cup against Wokingham.
But after the Brickies were thumped 6-1 at fellow strugglers Ashford Roles and his assistant Graham Brenton, who were both forced to play in the game, stepped down.
A philosophical Roles said he felt that he couldn't take the squad he had any further and hoped the club would bring in a manager who would make wholesale changes.
He said: "I just felt with the staff we had we were to naïve at either end of the park.
"And with the people who stitched us up at the beginning of the season it has been impossible to replace them.
"I've spoken to the chairman Andy Spice and he doesn't want us to do it but I don't want to wait until Christmas for the sake of my own ego. Only six league games have gone so I hope they can find someone who can bring a few players with them."
But Spice was sorry to his manager go. He said: "I'm very disappointed. He's a nice bloke and he's done a good job but he's just been very unlucky."
Sittingbourne are seeking applications for the position and any interested parties can write to Andy Spice, Sittingbourne FC, Central Park Stadium, Sittingbourne, ME10 3SB.
