Sittingbourne FC striker Michael Hurcomb makes dream debut with last-minute winner from the bench against East Grinstead

Michael Hurcomb scored a last-minute winner on his Sittingbourne debut – after approaching the club for a game.

Brickies boss Nick Davis agreed to give the young striker a chance and saw his new signing from Whitstable clinch a 2-1 win over East Grinstead on Saturday.

It was a dream start for a player who had only been on the pitch just over 10 minutes.

Davis said: “We weren’t actually looking for anyone but he approached us and it went from there. We thought there might be an opportunity to have a look at him, so why not get him in?

“He’s young, fits the bill and wants to progress. He wasn’t demanding a lot of money, either.

“He had a goal disallowed just before the winner but it was still a great finish and then he was in the right place at the right time at the end.

“The early signs look good and he’s certainly given me something to think about. He’s still got a lot to learn and develop but hopefully he can do that with us.”

Sittingbourne fly to Guernsey on Saturday morning for a 2pm kick-off against the Channel Islanders.
