Peter Smith is wanted by former Sittingbourne joint-bosses Jim and Danny Ward at Whitstable.
Holding midfielder Smith impressed when Brickies lost 4-1 at the Belmont this month.
The Wards are free to speak to him after making a seven-day approach, but Nick Davis is optimistic his first signing as Sittingbourne manager will follow Adam Molloy and Tom Brunt’s example by rejecting the Oystermen.
Davis said: “Peter played well against Whitstable and the seven-day approach followed.
“He’s quite particular about where he plays and he’s happy here, so hopefully he’ll stay. They’d have to offer good money to make him go.”
Brickies have signed pacy young forward Abraham Eze from Maidstone’s academy and there could be two more new faces in place by the time they visit South Park in a mid-table Ryman League Division 1 South clash on Saturday (3pm).
Striker Miles Cornwell is unavailable, with Adam Williams likely to partner Harry Smith up front.
Last weekend’s home game against Tooting & Mitcham was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and will be played on March 24.
