Defender Jack Steventon has rejoined Sittingbourne after telling Nick Davis he was wrong to leave.

The highly-rated teenager had his head turned by Kent rivals Faversham last October.

But he found himself out of favour at Salters Lane and is back with the Brickies, the club who gave him his break in senior football.

Boss Davis, who has allowed striker Steven Ita to join Sheppey on loan, said: “Jack rang me and admitted he’d made a mistake.

“He’s learned from what he’s done and fair play to him.

“He was sold something different to how it turned out there but everyone makes mistakes.

“We’ve all done it where we’ve thought the grass would be greener elsewhere.

“He did well for us and deserves another chance.

“He knows he’ll get opportunities to play at Sittingbourne.”

Steventon’s return follows the arrival of fellow defender Jardel Bundu-Kamara.

Davis said: “He’s from Barnet’s academy. He’s a massive lad and apparently they speak highly of him. He’s a great size, has great stature and he talks as well."

Sittingbourne go to Ryman League Division 1 South leaders Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday, followed by a rearranged home game against Herne Bay on Tuesday.

Brickies are 12th after a 3-2 win at Chatham on Monday - their first victory in 10 games.
