Sittingbourne sign Miles Cornwell, former Gillingham keeper Daren Hawkes and Laurence Ball

Sittingbourne have announced three new signings - including the return of a familiar face.

Striker Miles Cornwell, whose eight goals at the start of the season earned a move to Folkestone, has rejoined on a one-year deal.

Brickies have also signed former Gillingham keeper Daren Hawkes, along with ex-Dover and Margate centre-half Laurence Ball.

They are, though, looking for a new left-back after Tom Carlse, who scored six goals this season, joined league rivals Greenwich Borough.

Cornwell, 27, is Sittingbourne’s first contracted player since Harry Smith two years ago.

He scored 10 goals in an unfamiliar midfield role for Folkestone but will be back in his favourite position at Sittingbourne.

Brickies manager Nick Davis said: “Miles is a good, experienced player and it’s great to get him back after what he did last year. He’s a big signing for us.

“It wasn’t easy to get him back but the fact he’ll be playing in his preferred position helped.”

Brickies moved quickly to land Hawkes, 23, after Simon Overland rejoined Faversham.

He’s moved to Woodstock Park from Canterbury and is seen as the ideal replacement.

Davis said: “Hawkes has great pedigree after coming through the ranks at Gillingham.

“He had a good year at Canterbury and wants to play as high as he can.

“This is a good opportunity for him to step up. He was our first choice to replace Overland.”

Work commitments kept Ball, 30, out of football this season but he’s back to help out his old team-mate.

Davis said: “I played with Bally when he was on loan at Ramsgate and he did well there.

“Only a year ago he was playing for Tonbridge in the Ryman Premier play-offs, so it’s great to have him on board.

“He wants to come and help us out, which is refreshing to hear.”
