Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis says it’s time his side show how good they are.
With no wins in six league games, results haven’t reflected the quality in the squad.
But there’s plenty of belief in the dressing room and the Brickies are out to build on their sole home win this season when they meet Lancing at Woodstock in Isthmian South East this Saturday (3pm).
Davis’ side, who drew 0-0 at Sevenoaks last weekend, are a point clear of the visitors in a congested bottom half and know what they need to do.
“We’ve had four losses and two draws in our last six league games - we need to turn it around sharpish,” said Davis.
“It’s a tight league - anyone can beat anyone - but hopefully the Sevenoaks game was a stepping stone.
“There’s no easy games but we’ve got teams coming up who are in and around us and we’ve got to try and get maximum points. A couple of wins changes the complexion.
“We believe we can do it. We believe we’re a good side - we’ve got to go and prove it.”
Sittingbourne’s home form has been a source of frustration for Davis.
They started the campaign well, drawing with Ramsgate and beating Swale rivals Faversham, but have taken only one point from the past five games.
Davis said: “We need to change that around as soon as possible. The home form hasn’t been good enough.
“We’ve been OK away from home but we need to win our home games if we’re going to start climbing the table and it’s got to start on Saturday, really.
“If we play like we did at Sevenoaks and for long periods against Beckenham and Chichester, we’ve got every chance.
“You want to perform in front of your home support, don’t you? You want your home ground to be a fortress.
“We’ve only lost by the odd goal, other than Ashford (3-1 defeat), so we’re not far away.
“We’ve got to start picking up more points at home if we want to achieve anything this season.
“We’re a new team, and it takes time, but we’ve got to convert these half-decent performances into wins.”
Sittingbourne could count themselves unlucky against Sevenoaks.
A point moved them up a place to 13th but they could easily have had three.
“We played really well,” said Davis. “It was a good game. Both sides played really good football.
“They probably had more possession but we had the better chances.
“We’ve hit the bar twice and had one cleared off the line, and we’ve had a couple of balls across the box that we didn’t convert.
“I was really pleased with the performance, just disappointed we didn’t get the three points.”
Sittingbourne lost 5-4 on penalties to Welling after a 2-2 draw in the Kent Senior Cup second round last night.
