Nick Davis says a top-half finish would be like winning the league for Sittingbourne.

Manager Davis’ only aim at the start of the season was to keep Brickies in Ryman League Division 1 South.

But they’re holding their own in 12th place and Davis has seen enough to believe Brickies will stay away from danger and push on, although they lost 3-0 at Herne Bay last night.

He said: “If we make the top 12 it would be an absolutely huge achievement.

“Forty points is still my priority but, honestly, if we got top 12 it would be like winning the league for us.

“We were eight points off the play-offs after Saturday.

“It’s still early but if come January/February we’re in that position then, wow, you never know where it takes you.”

Davis missed out on a new striker last week and to keep Brickies looking up he needs to get someone in.

He added: “We’ll keep plugging away. I’ve got a couple of irons in the fire and there’s one or two players I’ve been allowed to speak to.

“There’s a few clubs looking for a No.9 - we’ll just have to see.”

As expected, defender/midfielder Jack Steventon has joined Kent rivals Faversham.

Sittingbourne visit struggling Godalming on Saturday and meet mid-table Walton Casuals at Woodstock Park on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
