Jordan Wells may have to settle for a place on the bench despite scoring a six-minute hat-trick in Sittingbourne’s big victory over Ramsgate.
Improving Brickies thrashed Rams 4-0 at Woodstock on Monday thanks to three late goals by substitute Wells. But even that may not be enough to secure a start in the derby at Faversham on Saturday.
Boss Nick Davis said: “I don’t even want to think about what I’m going to do at the minute.
“On one hand how do you leave out a player who comes on and scores a six-minute hat-trick? But then the two we started with up front, Dan Hughes and Miles Cornwell, were brilliant.
“It’s a nice problem to have. Jordan wants to be starting but I’ve told him to keep his head down and when he gets his chance, it’s up to him to take it.”
Victory over Ramsgate moved Brickies six points clear of danger in Ryman League, Division 1 South, – stretching their unbeaten run to five matches. It’s an impressive turnaround for a team who’d lost 13 league games in a row before beating Chatham and one that’s surprised even the manager.
Davis said: “It’s unbelievable to turn things around like we have and with near enough the same players.
“To go five matches unbeaten and take 11 points, I couldn’t ask for much more. I don’t think many teams will want to play us at the moment.”
